Over the next several weeks we will be featuring Top 10 lists from some of our DJs and volunteers here at SPACE 101.1 FM.

My Top 10 SPACE 101.1 Songs: Since I began listening to SPACE 101.1, I have heard tons of incredible songs from some amazing bands. I even created a Spotify playlist so I could save my favorite songs and I now have almost 150 on the playlist. That means putting together a list like this is really difficult. I did play my Top 5 for the Thanksgiving episode of Exploring Magnuson Park which you can listen to on the show page under Videos & Interviews. Expanding the list to my Top 10 is just as difficult but, to make it a little easier, I’ve decided to include a song picked by a guest on Exploring Magnuson Park and from an artist featured on Magnuson Park Live! since they are some really fun songs. Check out my list below and keep tuning in to SPACE 101.1 to hear my favorite songs and find some new favorite songs of your own. In no particular order, except for #1…

10) Seattle Freeze by Who Is She?

9) I Like Birds by Eels
You can hear this song on my interview with Hanae Bettencourt from Birds Connect Seattle.

8) No Roots by Alice Merton

7) Expert In A Dying Field by The Beths

6) Get to Know You by Tomo Nakayama
You can find Tomo Nakayama’s Magnuson Park Live! recording under Videos & Interviews

5) At the Purchaser’s Option by Rhiannon Giddens

4) Ghost Adventure Spirit Orb by chloe moriondo

3) Tightrope by Janelle Monáe

2) Ça plane pour moi by Plastic Bertrand

1) My favorite: Lost in Light Rotation by Tullycraft

And as a Boxing Day bonus…

My Top 5 Tullycraft Songs: One of the things I love about SPACE 101.1 is the variety of music you’ll hear on our programs produced and hosted by volunteer DJs. This wide range of genres includes surf, Americana, obscure indie-pop, new wave, punk, blues, world music, interviews (like my show Exploring Magnuson Park), local history, and much more. But it’s the SPACE MIX, a tailored blend of the best new music, vintage alternative rock, classic R&B, local music, and unexpected delights, where I first heard a Seattle band that has since become one of my all-time favorites. That band is Tullycraft and, while it’s almost impossible to narrow down my favorite songs, here are my Top 5 Tullycraft songs:

5) Goldie and the Gingerbreads (from The Railway Prince Hotel)

4) The Punks Are Writing Love Songs (from Every Scene Needs a Center)

3) Pop Songs Your New Boyfriend’s Too Stupid to Know About (from Old Traditions, New Standards)
Also the name of a SPACE 101.1 show hosted by a Tullycraft band member and his wife.

2) Bored to Hear Your Heart Still Breaks (from Every Scene Needs a Center)

1) Lost in Light Rotation (from Lost in Light Rotation)
